Alright, I know a lot of guys are doing this now, and I plan on getting on mine shortly. What I am wondering is this, I have gotten numbers and demensions and all to fully make the front suspension, but it is all 4x3 quarter wall. My question is, can I use 2x3 on a stock floor, for a mid/fullsize? No huge motor, and no gobs of power. Is the horizontal ?tension? worse on 2x3 than 4x3 or is this not going to be noticeable with a solidly built frame? I plan for the front crossmember to stay 4x3 because I feel its necessary with the suspension and all on it. any suggestions, opinions, ideas?

i'm not sure what guys with fullsize trucks usually use when they stock floor. minitruckers usually use 2x3. and i can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work for a full size as well. it sure as hell isn't gonna bend. as long as everything is welded properly and there are gussets where the need to be gussets, i think it would all be just fine.

cool, thanks man. im thinkin about getting all my crossmemebers (After the front one) all hammer formed by a sheet metal guy around the coast area, might have to do them out of state though. I love metal work, and I think it can change a build completely.

My main concern I guess would be exhaust through the crossmember, but a 2 inch dual is plenty for a 302, so 3 inch tall tubing "should" be fine. might be a little weak?

very nice, are there adapters or anything to go from round to that? or do you just do it yourself? I would need to do that, and then get back to the round for the muffler.

now this may sound crazy, but what type of steel is it i need? I don't want hot rolled right? seems like its crazy high. Just what do I need to ask for specifically when I call, or look online?

allllright. i found my 2x3, going to buy it a bit later as I don't need it quite yet. Still can't find a single INCH of 4x3 3/16 wall. It's actually starting to piss me off haha.

But anyways, I can get 3x4 3/16 for 4.42 a foot. or 166.80 for 40 feet of it. that SHOULD be close to all I will need, maybe 50 feet needed. So steel is the least expensive part of the build haha.
